Multi-Axis Heads Consolidate Machining

IMTS 2018: Setco’s line of multi- and single-axis heads integrate into machine tools to combine manufacturing operations.

Setco’s single- and multi-axis heads, including five-axis models, integrate into machining centers and lathes l to combine manufacturing operations. All can be custom-designed for integration into the existing machines.

Torque, clamping force and rigidity make the heads particularly suitable for bridge- and gantry-style machining centers in aerospace and die/mold applications. Multi-axis heads can increase throughput by completing work in a single setup.

Heads are available for both rigid and pickup interfaces, and in high-torque and high-speed configurations. The high-torque milling heads can generate up to 4,000 Nm of output, while the high-speed heads have spindles that rotate as fast as 20,000 rpm.

Swiveling milling heads with pickup tool interfaces can be use with head changing machines.

Tool interface is HSK T63. Maximum spindle speed is 15,000 rpm, while spindle power is 11 kW S1 continuous or 22 kW S3. Spindle torque is 48.2 nM S1 continuous or 106.9 Nm S3. Maximum torque is 993 Nm, while clamping torque maximum is 2000 Nm. Rotary angle is ±120 degrees. The measuring system is a Heidenhain RCN 8380/Absolute.
