CNC Machine Provides Alternative to Button Rifling

The DeHoff G536-C1 CNC machine from Kays Engineering is capable of rifling grooves into gun barrel blanks as an alternative to button rifling.

The DeHoff G536-C1 CNC machine from Kays Engineering is capable of rifling grooves into gun barrel blanks as an alternative to button rifling. According to the company, the machine reduces stresses into the barrel because the cut rifling process creates the rifling groove using a single-point cutter rather than using deformation.

The product performs cut rifling on barrels ranging from 22 to 50 caliber and from 4" to 30" (102 to 762 mm) in length. Twist rates range from one rotation every 4" to 60" (102 to 1,524 mm). Rifling can be cut at variable twist rates along the length of the barrel, also known as gain twist. Other programmable operations include traverse rate, depth of cut and number of grooves.
