Omax’s ProtoMax portable, small-format waterjet cutting system.
Abrasive waterjet cutting specialist Omax Corp. is featuring its latest advancements, designed to meet a variety of manufacturing and educational needs, including live demonstrations in its booth and in the Smartforce Student Summit, where students and teachers can explore new technologies through hands-on learning opportunities.
The centerpiece of the booth demonstration is the new ProtoMax personal abrasive waterjet system, a compact, self-installed cutting system designed for prototyping and relatively low-volume cutting of almost any material of about 1 inch thickness. The system aims to offer the versatility and benefits of large abrasive waterjet cutters in a package better-suited for small job shops, engineering classrooms, makerspaces and personal use. It can also serve as an additional tool for larger shops and fabricators that need occasional waterjet capabilities to complement other cutting systems.
Other machine demonstrations in the Omax booth include the Maxiem 1530 with A-Jet, the MicroMax, and an Omax 80X with Tilt-a-Jet. These systems, says Omax, will prove capability to cut 3D parts, component features smaller than 300 microns or taper-free parts from various material types and thicknesses without tool changes.
Away from the booth, Omax machine shop supervisor Dan DeWaal will discuss how abrasive waterjet cutting fits into the overall manufacturing process. He is speaking today in room W192-A at 3:15 p.m. DeWaal will discuss how abrasive waterjet cutting can efficiently complement precision machining processes.
