Additive Manufacturing Media Editorial Submission Guidelines
Additive Manufacturing Media communicates with manufacturing professionals at facilities of all sizes in every major industry — reaching an audience of 39,000+ monthly website visitors, 25,000+ opt-in email subscribers and more than 70,000
social followers. Our mix of in-depth, knowledgeable content in articles, videos, social media engagement opportunities and events delivers insight that additive manufacturing users depend on.
SCOPE/FIELD OF INTEREST
Additive Manufacturing Media reports on the promise of industrial 3D printing, its current applications, advances in technology, the challenges of employing AM effectively, the business impacts, and the relationship of additive manufacturing to other manufacturing operations. We aim to address the entire AM workflow (including design, postprocessing, finishing, etc.), not just the 3D printing step. For a sense of what we cover, please see our list of TOPICS.
Our coverage is aimed at manufacturing leaders, whether they make parts additively today or expect 3D printing to become a significant part of their production in the future.
PUBLICATION STRATEGY & DEADLINES
As a digital publication, we are always accepting submitted content on a rolling basis.
All accepted content is published to our website, AdditiveManufacturing.Media, which is updated multiple times per week. Once we accept a piece for publication online, it can be considered for inclusion in other locations as well as posting on our social media outlets.
Additive Manufacturing Media is a product of Gardner Business Media, and submitted content may be used by sister publications within GBM.
ACCEPTED CONTENT TYPES
Generally speaking, we DON’T publish equipment reviews, think pieces, “roundup” articles, step-by-step tutorials or market reports.
We DO accept submissions and pitches for the following content types:
- Industry news
- Product releases
- Case studies & technical pieces
- Application stories
- Pic of the Week
- 3D printed parts for The Cool Parts Show
INDUSTRY NEWS
We highlight significant AM news online and in the News section of The BuildUp newsletter. News covers major events relevant to AM users such as company acquisitions and expansions, strategic partnerships, and significant milestones in AM applications.
News releases should include contact information for the relevant company or organization, and a relevant high-resolution image.
PRODUCT RELEASES
We cover new products related to additive manufacturing online and occasionally in The BuildUp newsletter. Product releases highlighting new 3D printers, materials, hardware, software, postprocessing systems and inspection equipment are all appropriate. Submitted product releases should:
- Highlight specific features and benefits of a single product.
- Present the most important features first.
- Be as objective as possible. Superlatives and subjective statements will be removed or modified at the editors’ discretion.
- Provide a contact name, company address,
phone number and website URL. - Include high-resolution images.
CASE STUDIES & TECHNICAL PIECES
Case studies and other technical pieces should offer a deep dive into emerging technology, principles for the application of 3D printing or a specific success story. These long-form items will be published online and through The BuildUp, and may be considered for social media posting as well.
Case studies MUST be original content and exclusive to Additive Manufacturing Media. We will not accept case studies that have been previously published or otherwise distributed.
Guidelines for submitting this long-form content:
- Content: We like deep content with a lot of detail, focusing more on technology than product. We prioritize stories that focus on a specific 3D printing application and provide quantitative details on benefits such as cost savings, lead time reduction and benefits, lightweighting. Think: What can this article teach about this technology? How does it work? Why is it important? What specific, quantifiable benefits has it displayed?
- Length: These pieces are 800 to 2,000 words, and we will edit for length and style. It is best to err on the side of providing too much information; we can cut it down as necessary.
- Illustrations: ALL content requires, at minimum, a quality thumbnail image. Please provide one or more high-resolution images (to which the submitter owns the rights) with captions to illustrate key points. AI-generated images will NOT be accepted unless they are relevant to the content of the piece and appropriately labeled.
- About the Author: Contributed pieces will be posted with the contributor’s byline and an “About the Author” blurb at the bottom. Please provide the author’s name, affiliation and job title; a biography of 100 to 200 words; and a high-resolution headshot, if available.
APPLICATION STORIES
AM is interested in stories that showcase how a manufacturer applies additive manufacturing technologies to produce functional parts and the impact of this endeavor on the overall business. These longer form articles are typically written by staff editors.
We love success stories about 3D printing users, especially when they manufacture end-use parts or products with this technology. If there’s a customer or contact you think we should interview, let us know.
PIC OF THE WEEK
Less involved than a case study or application story, Pic of the Week posts highlight one compelling image (of a 3D printed part, AM process, application) with context and key facts. Please see our existing posts for a sense of what types of Pics we look for.
If you would like to submit material for a Pic of the Week, please send us a high-resolution image file and supporting information via email.
SUBMIT A PART FOR THE COOL PARTS SHOW
The Cool Parts Show is our video series on innovative 3D printed parts. To be considered, please email photos and a description of your part, how it was made and what makes it cool to CoolParts@AdditiveManufacturing.Media.
ORIGINALITY, EDITING & EXCLUSIVITY
Bylined articles attributed to AM Media staff are the words of the writer, and we expect the same from our named contributors. The use of AI to research, outline or edit a bylined contribution is acceptable, as long as the words on the page are the work of a human.
AM will edit any editorial submissions for content and to conform to our style guide. Contributed long-form content must be exclusive and must not have been published previously in another publication.
Each manuscript and all other material accepted for publication or presentation is accepted on condition that the submitter assents to Gardner Business Media’s Standard Terms.
FILE FORMATS
All text should be submitted as Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) documents, or in the email body.
Tables, graphs, photographs and other illustrations must be separate .jpg or .tif files — rather than incorporated or embedded within the text document. Please send the highest available resolution of photos (at least 4 × 5 inches at a resolution of 1,200 dpi) and videos (preferably 1080p), ideally without any text or logos imposed.
LARGE FILES
Files larger than 20 MB can be uploaded through Gardner Business Media's FTP site.
OTHER WAYS TO SHARE YOUR AM NEWS
In addition to our earned media channels, we offer paid media opportunities through Gardner Business Media’s GROW Industrial services. We provide sponsored content, webinars, advertising and more. Find more details in our media kit.
